Encoder disks

Encoder disks are essentially a series of lines on glass or film, used to measure rotary movement. They are generally used with a sensor which detects the lines and spaces to measure both movement and speed. The sensor can also have its own grating to further enhance the accuracy of the movement measurement.

There are two types, absolute and incremental. Absolute types generally only have one gratings track whereas incremental encoders have multiple tracks in order to also detect position.

Most encoder disks and linear gratings are made for OEM customers to special designs, so please send in your requirements.
